First week ending

Well, a busy week, plenty of baking and making going on...we decided to have a recycling session and made treasure boxes from old egg cartons - decorating them with paint, gems and glitter glue. The perfect size for storing marbles, precious stones and jewellery etc..
I have tried out a new courgette cake recipe, it turned out really well, moist and sweet, a good way of boosting childrens vegetable intake without them really noticing.
A trip to the local Gallery was enjoyed by all, especially the purchase of the biggest marble and some post cards for Fairy-pants Postcrossing project.
The young ones have also signed up for the Reading Challenge at the local library - involves reading 6 books over the summer holidays, there are prizes and a celebration party at the end of the hols. It has become a family tradition over the last few years and the children really enjoy it.
Eldest child has acquired a new iphone and has been glued to it for the last 24 hours, no doubt it wil be a permenant fixture in her left hand for some time to come...it has been lovely to see her joining in with some of the craft and games that her younger siblings have been doing in the last few days..

Recycling crafty

A touch of recycling this morning as we made robots and fairy-robots from bits and bobs around the house - a good way to use up old containers that cannot be recycled by the local council...
As usual school holidays mean den building in our house, here we have our first den of the season...no doubt the first of many, a perfect hideout for plotting and picnics...

First day of Summer Hols

The first day, Fairy-pants and JP made scrap books to keep a record of all their summer exploits...they spent quite a while decorating them...they can write little reports on places they visit, stick in photo's, draw pictures etc...

Lavender Biscuit recipe

I'm sure I have mentioned several times how much I love lavender biscuits at the moment...we have tried several recipes at home but this is my favourite one:
Makes 12 biscuits
5oz butter
3 1/2oz caster sugar
8oz plain flour
1 egg yolk
1 tbsp fresh lavender leaves, chopped
1 tsp lavender flowers removed from stem
Oven 160 C
Grease two baking trays or cover with baking parchment.
Cream butter and sugar together, add flour, egg yolk, lavender leaves...mix well.
Bring into a ball, knead a little until smooth. Roll into a cylinder about 8cm in diameter, cut into 12 sections and press flowers into the top.
Bake 15-20 mins until they feel firm but not yet brown.
Cool for 5 mins then place on wire rack to cool completely.

Gorgeous home produce!

Delicious chocolate bread (gorgeous toasted as it is bread rather than a cake..), happy tomatoes and beautiful garlic from the allotment!

I love this idea and have made my own version for the Summer Holidays that start on Friday this week !
Here is the jar I made for my family to enjoy this summer, I adapted the Boredom Buster ideas to suit my children and added a few of my own, I also decided to go for an 'Ideas Jar' as I am not too keen on the word 'bored'!
